Tulsan John Foster is June's social media photo contest winner and will be running the 2010 Williams Route 66 Marathon on us.
In his winning photo, Foster was donning his finisher's shirt from the 2009 Williams Route 66 Marathon, which qualified him for the free registration contest. Additionally, last year's race was also his first marathon.
"I originally started because I needed to lose weight but now I do it for the T-shirts, medals and beer," said Foster.
Since completing the Williams Route 66 Marathon, Foster has also completed two more marathons and two half marathons. He draws motivation from his family and friends who keep him going.
"Last year's event was very fun," said Foster. "I love the bands; the great organization. My family and friends met me all over the course for encouragement. I just loved the whole thing."
Foster will use his free registration to try to meet his new goal - completing the marathon in less than four hours.
In preparation for the race, Foster will participate in the Williams Quarter Marathon on Saturday, Aug. 7 where he'll run The Double, which challenges runners to complete the 5K race followed immediately by the quarter marathon. To participate in The Double with Foster or any of the associated Williams Quarter Marathon races, sign up online at www.quartermarathon.com. Receive a $5 discount if you sign up for both a quarter marathon and marathon event.
