According to Marathon & Beyond, the Williams Route 66 Marathon medal received high marks due to the unique hood ornament design corresponding to a piece of America’s history. The judges also took note of the special medal that the Williams Route 66 Marathon offers to first time marathon finishers.
The Williams Route 66 Marathon and Half Marathon medals change each year, and the new design will be announced at the Williams Route 66 Quarter Marathon in August.
“This chrome medal captures the romance of the open road,” said Rich Benyo, editor of Marathon & Beyond. “It captures the era of the classic car – and when driving was an adventure. Medals should in some way reflect the region of the marathon, and the Williams Route 66 Marathon medal portrays that image.”
Medal contest judges included 11 veteran marathon runners from across the country. Together, they boast more than 2,250 marathon finishes, equating to a lot of hardware. Of the medal entries, the panel consistently chose the top three medals.
